the Arno

Some of this doesn't even look real. This is a view across the Arno (the river). My apartment is just a few blocks from here.
This is the Ponte Vecchio. It's a bridge lined with jewelry shops, so it totally feels like a regular street. When the Medici family moved across the river, they wanted a connecting route to keep them out of contact with their people, so they built a walkway over the shops. Window flower boxes all over the place. This is not the real David, but this is in the Piazza della Signoria where the original was before they moved it to the Accademia. This is one of Michaelangelo's earlier ones I guess. I walk through this huge, busy piazza to get to my apartment. It has tons of other statues, and is right outside the Uffizi Gallery, a huge art museum we're going to at the end of the trip.
