Yawn.

Boring, no? Obama by a landslide. Nothing spectacular, but he owned the debate. He was more substantive, more presidential, clear, authoritative, and empathetic. More everything except erratic, which clearly goes to McCain. Obama did great on foreign policy too, supposedly McCain's territory. I didn’t think Obama had a great “connection” with the voters moment but I don't think he needed one with such a solid performance to stand on. A few thoughts before I hit the books...

- Was McCain trying to set the record for most uses of ‘my friends'? I am not his friend. I think the best had to be: "I'll get Osama bin Laden, my friends."
- McCain—get better jokes. He thinks he is so hilarious. [Ha Ha Ha, vary funny, you’re obviously a comadian. Name that movie and you get a prize.]
- "Now I've got to correct a little bit of Senator McCain's history, not surprisingly." Good one.
- Obama—McCain is right. Didn’t we learn our lesson from the back-to-back clips of Obama saying that like 12 times last debate? Thankfully, I think that was the only time he said it.
- McCain telling the young kid that he probably didn’t even know what Fanny Mae or Freddie Mac were a few years ago. What, because we’re stupid?
- "That one." You're kidding me. The democratic nominee for president of the United States? Or how about even "him." There's a lot on the blogs about that being some kind of racial comment, but I don't buy that.
- I thought Tom Brokaw was a smart moderator. I loved that look on his face where he’s thinking what do you two not understand about the rules you agreed to, the one minute limit, and the lights on the camera there to tell you when to stop? But after his first few attempts, it was just a lost cause. He needed to let that go.
- Obama sitting on the edge of his chair with a calm smile on his face. Does he know something we don’t? Or does he just think McCain is a lost cause and the smile is like he can’t believe this is his competition?
- McCain's "spending freeze." Don't be so dramatic. Spending freeze, but then have the government buy up all the bad mortgages?

One more debate next week folks (not like we'll learn anything new).

Tom Brokaw sucked tonight. ONE MINUTE? You can't do these serious issues justice in one minute. I know thems the rules but I just think he shouldn't of been so anal about it and let them actually DEBATE each other.

I have to admit, Obama totally took the cake on this one. McCain totally needs to get his act together or else he will be the next Bob Dole! I am just glad he decided to leave out the storytelling.

I thought the same thing about the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac comment to the audience. Yikes! And how awkward was it when McCain keep going deeper and deeper into the crowd to the point where he was practically standing on top of people?

McCain was already the next Bob Dole. From the day he won the primary.
